or “What’s in the Works at Chez Redhawk, the Sequel”
I checked my blog for last January on this topic.
Considering I’ve blogged before about setting goals, I was pretty pleased that I’d kept to most of mine.
As you can see, I had one hiccup. Ulina Mokupuni hasn’t really gotten off the ground quite yet.
I’ll fix that this year!
Without further ado, here’s what I’ll be working on this year:
Darkstone – Deadline March 1st
As reported in my last blog entry, I’m about a fifth of the way through this novel.
I’m giving myself a secondary deadline of April 1st to complete edits and submit this manuscript to Bella Books.
Ulina Mokupuni – Deadline September 1st
I’m going to finish this book if it kills me!
A friend and I originally came up with the premise of it years ago. Last year I put it on my goal list only to have it fall by the wayside.
My secondary deadline is October 1st to complete edits and submit this manuscript to Bella Books!
My Next Book – Beginning October 1st
I have no idea what this book will be about at this time. It’ll come to me sooner or later, I’m sure.
I have a couple of ideas that have intrigued me recently, but I don’t want to commit to anything until the time arrives.
This project will take me through the holidays and into 2015 with a wordcount goal of at least fifty thousand before the new year.
Editing – All Year
In this area I have little control. It all depends on my editors from Bella Books.
They currently have two more manuscripts of mine, so I expect that I’ll be editing both of them before the year is out — Freya’s Tears, a space opera, and Lady Dragon, Book 4 of the Sanguire.
Yes. The fourth Sanguire novel. Remember! You heard it here first!
Short Stories – Write Four
In an effort to follow up with my survey results, I plan to post four new short stories this year on my site.
I’ll use a blog entry to introduce them, and all stories will be available in the Online Reading section of this site.
Flash Fiction – Write Four
Additionally, I’ll be putting out four flash fictions that will also be posted on the site for free.
They’ll each be about five hundred words and won’t necessarily be lesbian romance. But the goal here is to keep me writing fresh material for my readers to enjoy.
Excerpts – Publish Four to Eight Excerpts
Again, in an effort to follow up with the survey results, I plan on putting out excerpts of my works in progress (or maybe the books that are going to be published in the next few months) at least four times this year.
Maybe more! We’ll see how it goes!
Exclusive Content – Add Two Articles Per Month
To keep things fresh with the mailing list I started this year, I plan on adding more material as I go.
Each article will be about five to six hundred words on topics related to writing and marketing. (This is content over and above my blog entries!)
It seems like a lot, but if I seriously apply myself I know I can succeed at every one of these goals.
It’s sitting my butt down in the chair that’s tough.
One of the mistakes I made last year was to not give myself deadlines.
Big mistake! Nearly every book I’ve got currently coming out of Bella Books had been contracted before I wrote them.
(Believe me, having a contract telling you to finish the freakin’ book is quite the incentive!)
I decided not to do that again because it was too nerve-wracking. My failure to stay focused was the result.
Hence, I’ve set my own deadlines to which I’ve committed.
End of story.
What About Your Goals?
Take a look at your life and think about how you want to change it (if you do.)
But don’t make that big change your goal!
Break it down, figure out the individual steps. Write down each step you need to follow to reach your end result.
Post that list somewhere and work on #1.
Then on #2.
You can do it!
